GILBERT LEAL
Ok, with a name like Gilbert you can only be so cool!! But that hasn't stopped him from making a difference in some close campaigns.
Remember the original Trinity River Bond campaign? Well Gilbert fought to get a TINY budget from Carol Reed to do Spanish TV, radio, and print. And it worked. The campaign won by 1%. Carol probably doesn't remember his role, but Domingo Garcia might.
Then outspent 10 to 1, Gilbert helped Craig Watkins come within 2% of defeating incumbent, Bill Hill, in the race for Dallas County DA. His comical radio spots on KRLD and Spanish radio 1270AM made a difference.
4 years later, Watkins wins election, making him the FIRST Black DA in Texas History.
So what does the son of a retired USAF Lt. Colonel do in his spare time? Play guitar, sing the blues and call in to KRLD with quirky comments on Charlie Jones.
.
The Dallas Morning News and ABC News have published Gilbert's opinion on improving education.
GERARDO MEZA
This guy knows soccer...and plays with a vengance. We're still not sure
why ESPN in Espanol isn't putting him behind the microphone.
When Gerardo's not reaking havoc on the field he does wonders in the
studio. A creative force in producing some crazy campaign commercials,
he's able to keep Latinos listening, laughing and casting their votes.
Talk about a winning combination.
